Memorial Gathering

On April 22, about 30 people gathered at Dawn's and Barry's house in Walnut Creek for the purpose of remembering Bruce Noble and celebrating the life that he lived. Some of us had not seen each other in many years, a few of us had never met. All of us had some connection to Bruce, and through him, to each other. The sun was shining, though rain had been predicted. We walked up to the amazing oak tree and settled ourselves in its long welcoming branches which provided seating at various levels. Poems were read--some from people unable to join the gathering--memories from over the years were shared, stories were told. I think Jeff Love pretty much summed it up when he stood, stretched his arms toward the sky and shouted out "We love you Bruce!" Osha had Bruce's ashes in a large container and those who wished to took a handful and scattered them around the magnificent tree or took some with them to scatter or bury elsewhere. We walked back down to the house to share the food, sitting in small groups indoors and outdoors to continue sharing both humorous and poignant remembrances of our contact with Bruce. Osha read aloud the Zen story of the 10 Bulls which Bruce had always loved. It was a sweet day.

I don't have any pictures of Bruce except the one inside my being. The image of a big gentle man of faith and divine wisdom. He was an inspiration to me in the EI's. I recall when I first met Bruce back in the early 80's and not wanting to do a dyad with him cause I thought he was too "off the wall" but eventually I went ahead and worked with him anyway. What an awesome experience I had with him. He was my friend after that. I looked forward to doing dyads with him again and again in the years to follow.
I remember going down the hill from Osha's one snowy Sunday evening after an Intensive with Fred driving his bomb of a car, and Bruce in the passenger seat and I in the back, we had the most delightful journey talking and giggling all the way down the hill to the Reno airport. Bruce would turn around and look at me, laughing, and there was just so much light coming from his eyes that I could actually see very clearly for it being so pitch dark outside!!!!
I loved working with Bruce in the EI's. I even recall having a direct experience with him. And how we both laughed for the longest time after that.
He would hug me with the tenderness of a sleeping child and yet his arms would feel like that of a bear holding on and never wanting to let go. I just loved the way he would laugh!
I remember one time he thought he could outsmart the slot machines in Reno, he was totally serious about that and I just had to give him his glory at that point with pure love coming from my heart. Cause I believed that he could.
His eyes would always shine when we embraced and his heart was always wide open. I just loved him with all my heart. He will be missed. I love you Bruce Noble, you are and always will be my Big Spiritual Brother.
Love, JLynn
